Believe in Yourself

I still remember a saying I heard in my childhood, “People who lost heart will never succeed.” But it is one of my experiences that made me really understand its meaning.

In the second year of senior middle school, I couldn't decide which major to

take, Art or Science. There were two reasons which caused my headache: on one hand, I was good at Science, because I was sensitive to numbers and formulas; on the other hand, I preferred literature, because I worshipped freedom and didn't like to be fettered by rules. After serious consideration, I chose Art resolutely even though under a lot of pressure.

However, the pain wasp't over even though I made my decision. I didn't do well

in Art. Even in my class, I was just so so. I was so miserable that I began to suspect my ability. I even thought about changing, my major and studying Science. My teacher

would be so surprised if I rushed into her of-five and told her about that, I believed.

Sometimes, life changes unexpectedly.

I could remember clearly it was on the morning of a Thursday. We were having a history class. In the class, my teacher made some comments on my test paper. I failed again. After class, I stood in the corridor outside my classroom. I had complicated feelings, but it seemed there was nothing in my brain. I sighed to one of my good friends, and looked into the distance. In the front，several new buildings were growing on the site. My history teacher, who was about 30 years old, had a magnetic voice, a wide range of knowledge and unlimited wisdom. She patted me on the shoulder and told me, “Though you didn't get a good mark, I found you have great potential because you are thinking in a logical way. Work harder, pay more attention to the skills of answering questions, and you will have no problem. Believe in yourself, and you can do it better.” Hearing this, I felt my blood was boiling and rushed up into my brain. Suddenly, I understood that I had lost my confidence. I calmed down and sat down by the table, learning politics and history. At last, I got the first place in our class. I finally won through hard working.

I am lucky, because I met a good teacher. She made' me understand that I had great potential. There is no hill that I couldn't climb, and there is no hole that I couldn't fill, if I have a will. It is absolutely unnecessary to linger in past memories. Believe in yourselves, stimulate your potential; and you will succeed in the end.

永远相信自己

记得很小就听过这么一句话：“对自己丧失信心的人，只会与成功失之交臂。”而真正深刻理解这句话的内涵，却是由于一次直观的体验。

高二文理分科时我曾经挣扎思考了良久。让我如此痛苦的原因有两个：我一直对理科拿手，而文科却不怎么样，属于那种对数字、公式比较有认同感的人；但我又一直比较喜欢文科，是那种思想情感不愿被条条框框所束缚而追求自由的人。经过深思熟虑之后，我毅然顶住了各种压力而选择了文科。

然而痛苦并未由于选择而划上句号。我的文科成绩徘徊不前，即使在班里也排不上好名次。我极度痛苦。我怀疑自己。我左右摇摆。我的防线也快要崩溃了。我甚至都想象得出哪天我冲进班主任的办公室，告诉她我要转班时她眼镜片后面的眼睛中那股掩饰不住的诧异。

生活终究因为一些小小的契机而改变。

我清楚地记得那是一个周四上午，天很蓝，刚上完一节历史课，那节课上老师点评了我的一张考卷，我照例考得不好。我站在教室外的走廊上，无限感慨但其实头脑一片空白，对我的同桌兼好友叹了长长一口气，眼光据说非常深邃地望着前方—那是一片建筑工地，正

在孕育着新建筑。我的历史老师，一个三十出头、说话很有磁性、一看就是充满知识与智慧的典型的高中女教师，拍了拍我的肩膀，告诉我：“虽然你的分考得不怎样，但看你的大题，思路清晰明了，多下点功夫，学会答题的技巧，你完全没有问题。相信自己，你完全可以做好。”我的血冲上了头脑，愣在那儿。我恍然大悟，原来这么多天来我竟然连我的自信也丢

失了。我又心平气和地坐在了我的书桌旁，啃起了历史、政治。最后，我的成绩跃上了班里第一。我终于用自己的汗水和辛劳赢得了胜利。

我是幸运的，因为我碰到了一位好老师，她让我明白自己其实是有潜能的，只要我愿意，生活中没有翻不过去的坡，没有填不平的坑。而你，你们都一样，不必纠缠在过去的记忆中而畏缩，树立起自信，勇敢地向前迈进，激发自己的潜能，你一定能得到自己渴望良久的东西。

Self-confidence is the key to the door to success. There self-confidence refers to believe in yourself. So if you want to succee , just make no doubt about it you will succeed, that is believe in yourself. If you do not believe in yourself you will fail, you will fall at the first hurdle.

By Liu Yang fang Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends,

Good afternoon! It’s my great pleasure to make a speech here. The

title of my speech is believe in yourself.

⒈ Confidence is the half of success. Believe in yourself. Be always

confident, and success is waving to you! Don’t always think “ I can’t!”

Try everything as well as you can. You’ll find yourself a new one, of

whom you’ve never noticed such excellent abilities to do many kinds of

things .

⒉ Here is one of my unforgettable experiences in learning dancing at

school.

①I used to be a very shy and unconfident girl. Last year our school

had a series of activities to celebrate New Year as usual. Our class

decided to perform dances for the evening party. And I was chosen to take

part in it. In the beginning, I felt very worried because I was afraid to give

a performance before so many audiences. I hid behind a corner and

wanted to give up. However, guided by the teacher, my partners started

dancing with the sweet music. How happily they danced! Looking at the

changeable and wonderful paces they moved, How admired I was! I felt a

little like dancing …

② “ Come on, Ah fang, dance with us!” Someone called out to me .

“ I’m afraid to dance…” I answered in a low voice.

“ Oh, my good friend, how silly you are!” The monitor remarked.

“How do you know you’re not able to? You’ve not even tried it. Nothing

is impossible if we put our heart into it. Do have a try!”

③“ Yes, why I can’t while the others can? Why not believe in myself?

Let me try. ” With the encouragement of my partners, I joined them in

dancing. I spent quite a happy afternoon with my partners. In the days

that followed, my partners and I practiced hard and cooperated pretty well.

You can’t imagine how excited I was when we won the first prize at the

evening party.

④During those days I learned a lot, not only how to dance but also

how to be confident—to believe in myself. Have a try before drawing the conclusion that you can’t. And I also began to feel that all that can be done by others can be done by myself.

⒊What do you think of Van Gogh, the famous Dutch painter? In worldly terms that time, he is an utter failure. Of all the 800 pictures he painted, only one was sold before his death. But I think he’s a winner! He worked ceaselessly at his art. Even though his great talents had never been recognized before his untimely death. He still believed in himself deeply to the art.

⒋Believe in yourself, do not be afraid of failures. Always put your heart into the favorites, never give up. So every one of us is able to do something well. When we discover something extraordinary with in ourselves. We should work until we succeed.

⒌My dear friends, Let’s always remember the famous saying by Madam Curie , Life is not easy for any of us, and above all we must believe in ourselves ！
